Endless Summer: How To Rock A Sunkissed
Glow All Year Long

glow4Believe it or not, the last few weeks of summer are beginning to dwindle down. I know – crazy, right? The transistion begins yet again, with crop tops changing to sweaters and the afternoon iced coffee turning into a toasty pumpkin spice latte. When it comes to our complexion, this is often the time when the last of the summer glow we’ve acquired gradually begins to fade away.

Or is it?

If you’re anything like me, you’ll want to be rocking that summertime glow all year round. And thankfully for us sunkissed enthusiasts, it only takes a few beauty products to do the trick. Now personally, I prefer using these methods to acquire and maintain a tan rather than the traditional method of basking in the sun. Not only is it easier and quicker to achieve a tan this way, but it is also a significantly safer alternative to both indoor and outdoor tanning. It’s common knowledge that UV rays are pretty nasty to the skin, so ignore the “benefits” that they may give you! They are not your friend, and a tan is not worth the premature aging and increased risk of skin cancer that come along with it. Self tanning allows you to achieve that same coveted glow while simultaenously keeping your skin protected, youthful and healthy. So yes, you can have your cake and eat it too.

When it comes to makeup, ColourPop makes it easy to rock a fabulous glow. I’m currently obsessed with their satin bronzer in Poolside and pearlized blush in Jelly Fish as these two combine to create the perfect mix of a sunkissed glow with a healthy flush of color. To achieve this look, you ultimately want to target the areas on your face where the sun naturally hits. An easy trick for this is to take your bronzer and apply it in a “3” shape on both sides of your face, so that it gets the sides of your forehead, your cheekbones and your chin. I also like applying it onto the bridge of my nose for some extra emphasis. Afterwords, apply some blush on the apples of your cheeks to add a gorgeous flush of color (Tip: With Jelly Fish, a little goes a long way!).

glow3For eyes, a light beige eyeshadow with a faint shimmer on the lids, browbone and inner corners of eyes really makes eyes pop and pairs fabulously with a bronzed look. I’m wearing ColourPop’s Super Shock Shadow in Truth and absolutely love the subtle yet chic finish. Lastly, a dusty coral tone on the lips keep you looking bright and summery all year round. I’m obsessed with Colour Pop’s Lippie Stix in Topanga, as it allows me to achieve this look with just one quick swipe.

To maintain a whole body glow, a good self tanning lotion is key. There are many different formulas out there for you to use at home, allowing you to really test out and select which method works best for you. For beginners, I would recommend using a gradual, self tanning moisturizer. With this formula, you get the benefits of smooth, mistake-free application and moisturized skin. An aerosol spray tan helps you target those hard-to-reach areas, and a mousse formula is easy to apply and gives you a bronzed look immediately after application. I am currently loving L’Oreal Tinted Self Tanning Lotion, as it provides results right away, dries quickly and gradually develops into an even deeper and more luxurious bronzed look. Regardless of which formula you choose, always apply sunscreen afterwords if you plan on going outside. Self tanner may allow you to develop a glow without the use of UV rays, but it does not protect you from them! Keep your skin looking fabulous on the inside and out by using self tanner and sunscreen hand-in-hand.

The bottom line? We may not be able to vacation year round, but this can certainly help us look the part. Close enough, right? Summer may come and go, but rocking a sunkissed glow can last all year long. With the help of a few products and a good eye for balance (because as we all know, too much self tanner is an obvious no-no), your look can experience its own kind of endless summer.
