How did you get into the makeup industry? I’ve always loved to make people look and feel beautiful. Growing up, I would always do my own makeup and hair for dances and events; my friends would always ask me to do theirs as well. Beauty and fashion have always been an interest of mine. A lot of people think that makeup is just a simple task, but I have learned how complex it really is and the artistry behind it. I think that’s what keeps me so interested in it. I’m learning something new from every face, every day.
If you were stranded on an island, what are you three must have beauty items? First, number one must-have beauty item would definitely be moisturizer with SPF in it. My skin is so sensitive that if I were trapped on an island I would burn and peel so quickly so for the sake of survival! Also, waterproof mascara because a girl can’t live without mascara! It would be just the perfect beauty fix while swimming and hanging out on the beach. Lastly, a lip gloss to keep my lips hydrated and prevent cracking.
What was one of your biggest career challenges and how did you overcome it? Probably my age, I started working as a Makeup Artist on sets at the age of 18. A lot of the time when a model or a producer would find out my age they wouldn’t take me seriously until they saw my finished product. I had to work very hard to prove myself, and I’ve learned to just be confident in everything I do.
Who are some role models who have inspired you? My Mom and Dad 🙂 My Mom has this beauty that no matter the situation she always looks good. She is my voice of reason, and when I panic or freak out about the littlest situations she has this way of calming me down. My Dad is a very smart man, I get my work ethic from him. He always makes sure that I know my self worth when I doubt myself and always reminds me that I can do whatever!
What’s your signature style? I love a good matte nude lip with glowy bronzed skin paired with of course big lashes. You can never go wrong with a nude lip whether it’s a deep nude or more of a cool nude; it’s the perfect lip for every occasion….. Along with bronzed glowy skin and lots of mascara to help compliment the perfect, healthy, sexy, simple look.
What’s in your bag? Currently in my makeup bag I have an everyday lip liner, about 3 mascaras (because you can never have enough), moisturizer, foundation, powder, a good everyday blush, lots of bronzers, concealer, highlighters and a couple of nude lip sticks 🙂
What is the best piece of advice you’ve received? What advice would you give to new artists? The best advice I’ve received is that there are no rules when it comes to beauty. You can create an entire makeup look with just lipstick if you really have to! Makeup artistry is all about bringing your vision and art to life. There will be times when you have to follow a certain look or style that you might not agree with but don’t let that discourage your creative spirit.
