As someone who cherishes sleep more than life itself, I admittedly hit the snooze button more than just a couple times each morning (beauty sleep, right?) Consequently, my morning routine has slowly evolved to fit my oversleeping habit. With a few tricks up my sleeve and some multitasking practice, I can now effectively wake up and be out the door in no time. For all my fellow lazy girls, I present my ever-broadening arsenal of beauty hacks.
Silk Pillow Case
Not only does sleeping on a silk pillowcase make you feel regal AF, it makes your hair and skin look soft and healthy. Think about it: our face and hair has more contact with our pillowcases than any other fabric. Sleeping on silk can help our skin to remain soft and hydrated, as well as reduce wrinkles, fine lines, and blemishes. It can also help lessen the friction that causes split ends and is the unofficial cure to bedhead.
After a long night of studying, partying or just binge watching Game of Thrones, you might wake up with a case of tired eyes. For years, celebs have been applying white eyeliner on their waterline to make their eyes appear brighter and more awake. Use this trick in morning but make sure to reapply mid-day!
Wear braids to bed and wake up with beautiful waves
When I was younger my mother loved to braid my hair. Three strand, french braids, fishtail… you name it, she braided it. Throughout high school and even now, I continue the tradition and do a very loose braid in my hair to wake up with beachy waves with no hot tools at all.
Invest in a good hair cut
This is a necessity. I was getting bad haircuts for years and didn’t realize until I treated myself and visited a master stylist. After some scissor magic and a quick how-to blow-out lesson, my hair looked better than it ever had. I swear, that woman saved my (lazy) life. With good haircuts, comes good hair days.
This stuff is basically tinted moisturizer on steroids. It hydrates, brightens and evens your complexion while also blurring imperfections. It also protects your skin from UV rays with SPF 15 or 30. It’s basically every face product you’ve ever used in one bottle. After using it you will question how you ever lived without it. My current favorite: Maybelline Dream Pure BB.
Dry Shampoo AKA The Holy Grail
Dry shampoo breathes new life into any oily bedhead. Give your second (or third) day hair a couple sprays and a quick finger tousle and viola! My current favorite: Moroccanoil Dry Shampoo Light Tones (also comes in dark tones). It smells amazing!
2 in 1’s
Aloe Vera is the ultimate 2 in 1 (10 in 1?) product. Although it’s classically used on sunburns, you can also use it on your face at night to reduce redness, on your brows as a natural brow gel, on blemishes if you maybe had a moment of weakness and picked at your face, or you can use it as a makeup remover. The list goes on! Another 2 in 1 hack I love is using conditioner while shaving my legs instead of shaving cream. It hydrates and creates a smooth finish without the hassle of keeping yet another product in your shower.
